New Year's Resolutions
So far, no resolutions have been stated. I'm holding out as long as possible. Everyone wants to lose weight or be healthier or smarter or wealthier. Those are standard.

I wish I could impose resolutions on other people the way politicians can impose their resolutions on us. For that matter, insurance companies impose their will on us and change their resolutions whenever they feel like it. What would you resolve for other people might be a good question to pose to people on the street, with the proviso that they can't be offensive.

I would resolve that no tailgating would take place. Traffic engineers say that is the single most significant factor in traffic jams. If people wouldn't follow so closely, more roads would not be necessary and traffic would flow more smoothly all day long.

Everyone would wash their hands when leaving a bathroom. (Especially at wedding receptions or other food buffets.)

People would say please and thank you when appropriate.

No one would run a computer or telephone scam.

All pet owners would take lessons in responsible pet ownership.

People should know and use the Golden Rule.

Celebrities would realize their good fortune and take seriously the image they project to others. People who collect garbage and teach children or clean or work on cars would be appreciated as much as celebrities.
