AAnother Black and White Movie
I just watched a 1933 movie by Frank Capra, starring Barbara Stanwyck, The Bitter Tea of General Yen. It gave us a nice little slice of history. The story covers one week in the lives of several individuals in a large province of war-torn China.A very large cast of small parts and walk-ons, mostly Asian, filled the screen.

Babs was very sexy, but never under-dressed or overtly sensual. She was young and played a frightened woman in an emotionally charged arrangement. The sexual tension was always there but not blatant. It did not assault our senses, as did the cruel disregard for human life. Even that made its point without showing us the gore. The only blood was on the general's forehead in a car accident.

I couldn't help but wonder if Capra were alive today, what sort of films he would be making. He had to be considered astounding in his own day.
