Lies Pervade An Empty Room
Betrayal echos about in an empty room
Lives evicted from what was
Lies spread and poisoned our past
Now we are each alone
In our pain
That echoes
In an empty room.

Tears stain the walls
That were once a brightly painted and ornate
Holes gauge the once smooth surface
The carpet is ripped up and gone
No furniture remains
Death has come to stay
In an empty room.

Eviction notices parade as divorce decrees
And I make my way on a new path
Unfamiliar, it unnerves me
Leaves me raw and vulnerable
Open to more pain
To save myself, I close myself off
In an empty room.

The lies grow faint
Now that I am gone
I can let them blow away
like dust from a past, deprived of life
I can hold my head up
Breath in newness and claim life
In a room remade.
