Day 18 - Object Description & Research
Tuesday, Oct. 18
Required: Object Description â–¼
Describe, in detail, an object critical to your story. Add the object description to your definitions database (if applicable.)

I am not sure if this is critical to my story or not... but they add an element of fun. They are a dog and cat that the owners of the house have rescued. Both of these animals are immediately drawn to Taygen - the cat, in particular, can always be found with Taygen whenever she is home. Both of these animals do not like Carson when he comes to visit... the cat, usually laid back and loveable hisses and the dog growls.

Myra calls her the 'animal whisperer' as the animals often follow her around.... and that includes Alex. She has a running bet with her husband that Alex and Taygen will become a couple.

Bonus: Research OR World Building â–¼
Research: For reality-based fiction, research aspects of your novel that will lend credibility to your writing.
World Building: For fantasy, science fiction, or other speculative fiction, develop the history, geology, ecology, and/or maps for your world. Update your character, setting, and/or definitions databases with any new information (if applicable.)

My research has had me walk the area where my story takes place. I have discovered the amount of time and the distance it takes to walk from where Taygen lives to the school she works.
I have also had the pleasure of supplying in the school where she works - so I know the school and its layout. Big windows, hard wood floors, the creaks, the distance to the bathrooms - as students are required to walk all the way to the basement to use them.... making bathroom breaks something you would like to limit or work into a routine, if need be. Given Taygen's students are grade 3 and 4's, they should be able to make it between nutrition breaks.
The house Taygen lives in is a combination of houses on a certain street close to Victoria Park. Walking the area in a variety of seasons has given me a more open view of the area itself.
The bookstore Taygen works at is a combination of two indie bookstores I really like - one is in Waterloo and the other is in Guelph. I like the idea that the bookshop is combined with a bistro, and ebar / greenroom cinema and the bookstore. Taygen's main hours are in the bookstore - but she often fills in for big events and when they are short staffed. December is busy with Christmas parties... so Taygen is able to work a great deal in December to make up for less time in November - for nanowrimo.
I have also researched the shop's hours so that they will coincide with my story.

Suddaby Public School is 1.3 miles from the area my character lives. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes. I cut through the park, but other than that the steps I took were on the streets... it took 23 minutes. If I had to walk all the way around 25 to 30 minutes makes it more likely.
