Counting the Days

I look at my datebook,
I count the days
left in January:
five days
that can be
either short or long
depending on my state of mind.

I look at my datebook,
I count the weeks
left in "I Write in December-January-February" :
five weeks
and five contests
to enter.

As January passes
I count the days,
I wonder what surprises
February conceals
beneath winter's melting snow.

As February approaches
I count the days,
I contemplate my priorities
and ask:
         How many days until Ayyám-i-Há?
         How many weeks until The Fast?
         How many Feast until Naw-Ruz?
