Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time
I listened to fairy tales
read my my Mother
or Grandmother
dreaming of a happily ever after
with a handsome prince.

I grew up,
perhaps too soon,
and realized happily ever after
didn't exists.

Now,
at 70 years young,
I understand
that happily ever after
depends upon spirituality
and not another human being.

Today
I work on
developing spiritual attributes.
