Falkland Islands
August 16th We’re taking a flight from Buenos Aires to Rio Gallegos and having a brief layover before we hop onto our next flight to the Falkland Islands.
Lunch at the airport sucks I know but given the scheduling, it couldn’t be avoided.
At 6:00 pm we arrive at the Falkland Islands
Darwin House Darwin, East Falkland F1QQ 1ZZ, Falkland Islands

The good news is we’re the only guests, we have the house to ourselves other than the staff.
Enjoy your evening, catch up on some rest. Laundry etc. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

It's 46 degrees this morning and the weatherman says it will go progressively down to a low of 39 degrees by 5 p.m. on the Falkland Islands today. I wonder if the weather everywhere is getting cooler as we move toward the eclipse?

Book for today: The Battle for the Falklands by Max Hastings / The Falklands were invaded by Argentina in 1982. Argentina still claims them, even though, Britain is their sovereign nation.

Quote:"The most popular reason to visit is for the scenic beauty and the flora and fauna. Conservation is high on the Islands' agenda. Bird and marine species are the most prevalent fauna and include five species of penguin, four species of seal, albatross, petrels, the Falkland Flightless Steamer duck (Logger Duck), other duck species, geese, hawks and falcons. The Striated Caracara (Johnny Rook) is a rare bird of prey found only on the Falkland Islands and some islands off Cape Horn. Porpoises and dolphins are often sighted with the occasional sighting of whales." Reference from: http://wikitravel.org/en/Falkland_Islands

The Islands are also famous for their sheep farming atmosphere and fishing industry. Exploring them will be fun. Our group are all lazing around or outside Darwin House walking around. There is a beach along the islet. The shore is rocky so I don't know how close to the water you can get. I am relaxing, reading, and soaking up the South Atlantic Sea air and the atmosphere. What will tomorrow bring?
