All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream.
Thank you Whata SpoonStealer for the beautiful purple awardicon that graces my blog cover!
DAY 1825 November 14, 2017
What are your thoughts about Edgar Allen Poe's quote? "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
The quote is taken out of context so it has little or no meaning for me. But when I read the entire first verse the meaning becomes clearer.
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
It's a beautiful poem. What comes to my mind is perhaps a relationship ending. It has been my experience that we often see in our partners what we want to see and we make the whole relationship into what we naively want it to be. In that case, all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
This is just my interpretation of the quote and most likely not what Edgar Allen Poe intended at all.
