God's New Name: A Metaphor
God's New Name:
A Metaphor

The millennia old church
has a new courtyard and sanctuary,
religious obligations of prayer and fasting
preserver,
but the priest are gone:
responsibility for their own salvation
is now
in the hands of the faithful.

Scares remain
on the outside of the church,
the bones
of God's martyred lovers
are burried
beneath the new courtyard,
and the rainbow scented garden
of God's ancient covenant
is renewed.

The sacred scriptures,
both the new and the old,
are read with equal reverence
and prayers are said
in the languages of humanity.

Raise your voices in praise,
sing and shout;
inscribe God's new name
on your heart.
