What was riven must be restored

They unravel the fabric of our lives,
those who would rend our humanity
into tattered strips of cloth, restrict
our freedoms to only what they think
should be our thoughts and in that
rupture promise promise a reckoning,
a rapture for which we do not lust:
spasmatic schisms and chaotic chasms
we cannot cross.
                             How to weave
the woof and weft of what remains,
fashion new cloth. And yet we mourn
wellsprings of wisdom wasted, lost.
