Eluvium [215]
Eluvium

Say skree—
say waterfall—
but gentler—

I am going nowhere,
just falling from a height
to weather here.

See rock,
see stone,
see crystals

glinting back at you.

Say you saw my face on the mountain top.
Say you see me now.

I'm everywhere you look

if you look hard enough—
or soft enough—
or long enough—

I'm going nowhere.

Soil Science: E Horizon This eluviation (leaching) layer is light in
color; this layer is beneath the A Horizon and above
the B Horizon. It is made up mostly of sand and silt,
having lost most of its minerals and clay as water
drips through the soil (in the process of eluviation).

In geology, eluvium or eluvial deposits are those geological deposits and soils that are derived by in situ weathering or weathering plus gravitational movement or accumulation.

Alluvium (from the Latin alluvius, from alluere, "to wash against") is loose, unconsolidated (not cemented together into a solid rock) soil or sediment that has been eroded, reshaped by water in some form, and redeposited in a non-marine setting. Alluvium is typically made up of a variety of materials, including fine particles of silt and clay and larger particles of sand and gravel. When this loose alluvial material is deposited or cemented into a lithological unit, or lithified, it is called an alluvial deposit.
