Calling of the first Magic
-Echo’s of the Past-

Prelude

Artanis walked in the garden thinking about the war that he would have top contribute to more than likely having to serve as an under commander after his latest failing in the field. How he longed for the fighting with the Recq “people of the sea” to stop, thus far he had lost fourteen legions to them and many of them good friends. As he walked down the path he came upon his parents graves that had died many yeas ago, he sead a silent prayer to them and asked for forgiveness for he was about to loose a war that should not be lost. He heard the milling about of horses; his officers had arrived to take him to the emperor for his new orders. He kissed both gravestones than got up and began to walk down the path that would take him to the front gates of his house, the servants had been told to either fight or die but he had changed that order and told them all to flee to the mountains with their families. Most of them had leaving twenty-five that would take up sward and fight, all of whom he called friend and none had any family to run away with.

As he came to the front yard he ordered his home to be put to flame for the enemy would be there within the hour, they where to gain nothing. He looked out the gate and there was the last of his men all three hundred of them and most of the wounded too. Walking up to his horse being held by one of his oldest friends and one of his under commanders he took the rains and swung up onto the horse. He reined the horse around and shouted the order to leave taking only one last look at what had been his home now consumed by flames.

As his rag tag army made it’s way around the rough mountain terrain he could sill see the black billowing smoke from his estates, still he lead his men, east, towards the emperors golden palace, last of the strong holds left in this country. They made there way around rocky outcropping’s to the forest of Yeave ware they would take the only paved rode this far south making there journey faster to reimburse the palace guard but not by much. As they came to the rode he ordered they form ranks eight wide twenty deep, they did so like true soldiers but the look of them gave the appearance of the walking dead torn tattered cloths and armor bandages that still shown the red stain of blood, non held there head high because they had been beaten down like dogs by the Recq berserker army.

They had been on a forced march for three days, coming around a bend in the road, there was a roadblock manned by the Recq they all shot at the same time, the whole front rank was enveloped by mayhem as the screaming of wounded men and horses pierced the air. He new he should have sent out a scouting party now, he reaped what a command that should have been given but hadn’t been given.

“RUNNN” Artanis was able to shout before several arrows hit him and his horse, the men scattered at his command, his horse began to run deep into the forest he was barley able to hang on as it was, the world around him was getting darker and farther away, loosing his grip he fell off. He lay there spitting up blood so he though was what dying was like, strange it didn’t hurt he fell into a black void.

A woman sat in front of a clear globe she had expended the last of her energy on something that she hoped would change the course of the future. She covered the globe with a cloth and walked to the balcony Soon he would be here, their savior from another world plan. There was still much to do before his arrival in six days beyond the shield, the spell that brought him across time and space had originally been made to bring the bodies of dead soldiers back to there country of birth, she had altered it in such a way that she could bring him here on the cusp of death. The spell had been keyed to his body thousands of years ago the spot in witch he would appear was in an old place of power where it was sead that all life had been born from. In transporting him to that spot at the brink of death she hoped that the healing powers of creation would mend the body, that moments ago she has seen laying on its back two shafts deeply embedded in is chest one pinned his left arm to his side and two more in his left leg. She wished that so many of his friends had to die to bring him here, she had sped up the horses of his enemy so they could lye in ambush for him and his band of men. It pained her to see all those good me die so horribly none begged for there lives all who weren’t in the first rank, fought like daemons but they were out numbered thirty to one and surrounded there was nothing that could be done. She sighed and prepared a sack of cloths and food the spot of creation lay three weeks walk through rocky thickly forested terrain, likely she has the help of her long friend and companion over the years a Dire Wolf named Deggerah.
