"I have come to the conclusion that we must not expect too much from life. We must give to life at least as much as we receive from it. Every moment one lives is different from the next. The good, the bad, the hardship, the joy, the tragedy, love and happiness are all interwoven into one single indescribable whole that is called LIFE. You cannot separate the good from the bad. And, perhaps there is no need to do so either."
--Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
The older I get the more I HATE housework and what a waste of time it is. But sadly essential so maybe like you I should set a limited time to the chores to avoid faffing as I call it.
18 months after moving I still have unpacked boxes, but after a while you notice them less. In my case I need to save up for furniture to accommodate stuff, but in the meantime getting rid of things I don't want or need seems the way to go. I know how much stuff accumulates through teaching however.
I think the pangs of past life will always stay with us, but change is inevitable and adjustment takes time. True friends will always stick with us wherever we are.
You have described adulthood well, but there's a plus side too. Don't wilt too much.
Congrats on your return and your many achievements over the intervening years. I have followed your progress on Facebook and pleased you are settled in your new place. I hope you'll be able to post some photos of the countryside around you.
I empathise with the stress of teaching and have great admiration for anyone who tackles it in present times. I'm sure you'll cope well and be a great example to the youngsters you teach.
Sorry about your break up, but I firmly believe in destiny and there being reasons for everything, no matter how painful at the time. Just as it says in Jackie Kennedy's wonderful quote up there.
Sorry for being late on a comment. Have no idea how I missed this and just found it reading the next.
You may have already figured it out about the review; but if you didn't, your entry is a perfect review that anyone would understand. I myself have started to do "reviews" in detail, but I don't send them. I do a summary of what I've found and look at how best to encourage the writer in the right direction. Then I also offer to send a more detailed markup. Just remember that each item you point out needs an explanation of why. That often makes me rethink it myself and sometimes realize that it may not be that important or that it could be different style. Poems and prose can be interchangeable at times (unless your hardcore poetic language bible bearer).
I just wrote a looooong and pretty amazing comment that I'm sure you would have given a 5-star review, but when I clicked 'submit', my internet died and my comment along with it! I'm sure I could never create such a masterpiece again, so I'll just say this: Find a balance with your reviewing and keep the tone of your review encouraging, despite any criticisms within. I rarely review anymore, but from what I remember back when I did, people tend to post their work here, then sit around and wait for the slobbering praise. Be brief and to the point. Gentle but honest...and encouraging. Give the good parts equal billing...if there's any good to be had.
Bellbottoms are best worn with matching bellbottom briefs.
Is there caffeine in hot chocolate? I avoid much caffeine too as it makes me jittery and prevents sleep. Hope by now your flight is well on its way and was tolerable at least.
Reviewing is a difficult one and as you say, not everyone takes kindly to criticism. I'd suggest sticking to poems here you really like with just a few minor suggestions for improvement. Not many on WDC know how to critique well.
Thanks for the education. I never thought of Spain as glamorous or gorgeous; it sounds like Any City USA.
As to your first comment—I always spend money when the bank balances are low. In order to prevent this, I buy at least one or two books or DVD's before the splurge occurs.
Your "vacation" money was well spent, even if the timing was off.
