Just a bunch of reactions to retreat.

Herein are the notes from various retreats. I want everything in one place.

I am working through a series of books I have called "A retreat with," put out by the St Anthony Messenger Press. I also have some books by others on mysticism, the nature of Time, 30 day Ignatian (silent) retreats and such. I just want all the notes in one place.

I don't care if other people read this. This is raw stuff, as honest as I can be. It is not meant to be a polished expository essay.

I apologize if you feel offended by anything I write. I am not trying to attack any other religion, or even what I grew up with although I admit it comes across as this. I am exploring and being blunt and honest.

My background is a child raised in Pre-Vatican II for nine years, and Catholic schooling. I am well-read in theology (well, for a layman.) I get pretty confused over all the flavors of Protestantism, and honestly feel more comfortable with Judaism, and the Greek and Russian Eastern/Orthodoxy.

At this point I have no interest in converting to anyone elses' anything: the devil you know beats the devil you don't.

We were outside for 40 mins while they did the count. They each wore bright orange vests with "FIRE WARDEN" on the back, orange baseball hat, walkie talkies and a clipboard.

The count by name didn't work well since some were working from home, some at meetings out of the building, and some out for a late lunch.

On the bright side we had a great view of the Divide and could see Russian from our parking lot :D

When the Fire Marshalls wear their special uniforms during a fire or drill (they do have hats, walkie-talkies, and a bull horn (mechanical, not from an actual animal)?), do they look like clowns and will that cause problems if they are outside at the bottom of the stairs when you exit?

Please keep us informed of all answers and don't pruposely set the place on fire just to warm up a pumpkin latte.

What a poignant entry for Independence Day! Amelia is one of my favorite women, too. I like to think she's still flying somewhere and not that she died a desperate death, alone on an island, hoping to be found before being eaten by giant crabs. Still, something in me wishes her a final peace, though I think she found it long ago and it won't matter much to her if the world finds out now what happened or not.

How sad for the loss of your letter ~ was it something you had committed to memory and therefore tucked into your mind? I hope so...it's those little things that are of no monetary value to most that mean so much to us. I found after selling off 99% of my belongings that so few things carried much value with me anymore. My son is about the only thing, actually.

Hope your 4th was all you wanted!

I was trying to track back to when Morsi was elected a year ago but Google has altered their search parameters and now you can't find shit if they don't want you to find it. I'm not happy. I don't like that they are redirecting my URLs when I type in what I want either (redirecting it to something I've already been to based on past behaviors even though I delete my history...it's getting frightening). Anyway, I followed it for a time because when we were in Europe we had planned to possibly take a trip to Egypt as I'd always wanted to visit. We returned home instead but after looking at the timeline of when the unrest really started, we would have been denied Visas or been advised against going by the government anyway. Egypt is making Greece look like a cakewalk of a visit.

It's terribly difficult to really understand what is going on though unless you've been over or unless you've followed some of this stuff for a long time.

I think the harmless stuff is who wore what to what award's shows. Even I grew up on that, it was just what you talked about at lunch in school the next day. I actually sort of get that.

But to me everything changed when Princess Diana was hounded to death -- figurative and literally... that's when you could see the power of the press used for utter evil.

And what CNN did in Somalia, I still think they should have been charged with (aiding and abetting) war crimes because they directly allowed 25 Pakistani peacekeepers drive into an ambush and be murdered... all for video footage that they filmed but would never be allowed to use. If you saw CNN on the ground filming you in Somalia, the next thing that would happen is all hell was gonna break lose.

I've tried to figure this out so many times. At one point in my life I had a vague interest in celebrity lives, I won't lie. It was always interesting to see who was wearing what dress at the Academy Awards (and love them or hate them for their taste in fashion). I grazed at the supermarket checkout line if made to wait more than two minutes to load my groceries onto the belt. I commented with passing interest on who dated who, who might be getting divorced and who was lucky enough to stay married without getting cheated on. Who was in rehab (again) or who had cute kids and was in the park every day.

Then when we were in Germany, we stayed with an old school chum who was married to a pro basketball player and though I had long ago left behind the celebrity scene and only judged them on acting ability, the stay reinforced why. Their home life is so totally normal and different than their face to the public. Not entirely different, but different. She puts things on their FB page just for the fans so they feel included. It's not fake, but they do things specifically to keep the public part of their lives so they don't invade their real lives. It was a real eye-opener to the fact that we really know very little of the real people behind the celebrities unless they want us to know and should we have any right to?

I feel like most of People is made up stuff. I get Entertainment Weekly and I liked it mostly because Stephen King had a column where he said his opinions. He doesn't' do that anymore and it has deteriorated to a People sort of slant on celebrities, being judgmental on their lives, etc..

The long knives are out for Paula Deen now just like at one time they were out for Martha Stewart.

The media never shines that bright light on themselves or those in political favor.

I am more sick of the media telling everybody what to think than People. We call it "Poo poo" in our house when we refer to it. Mr. Hooves came up with that nickname of poo poo.

Yup, I agree with Ren. You do write poetry in prose.

And sorry that some things still weigh on you. It is just that super heavy stuff is too difficult to move out of our houses.

I can also relate to the big city vs country dilemma.
I love, love, love Manhattan as I am a city girl, but I also like where I'm living now, Florida, only because all sorts of birds visit the surrounding area, and I love the quiet, the palms, and the sunsets I can watch from the back porch. On the other hand, every single neighbor I made friends with passed away during the last few years, and right now it is just too hot. We have a good enough library but not much mental stimulation, although internet makes up for those to a degree.

As always, you win some; you lose some.
