We live much of life amid unique choices. Joy is anchored in The One beyond our life. |
“There are times when solitude is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. We should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on His Word spiritual strength for labour in his service. We ought to muse upon the things of God, because we thus get the real nutriment out of them. . . . Why is it that some Christians, although they hear many sermons, make but slow advances in the divine life? Because they neglect their closets, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God's Word. They love the wheat, but they do not grind it; they would have the corn, but they will not go forth into the fields to gather it; the fruit hangs upon the tree, but they will not pluck it; the water flows at their feet, but they will not stoop to drink it. From such folly deliver us, O Lord. . . .” ― Charles Spurgeon “Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strengths.” ― C. H. Spurgeon “Hope itself is like a star- not to be seen in the sunshine of prosperity, and only to be discovered in the night of adversity.” ― Charles Haddon Spurgeon “If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.” ― Charles Spurgeon “A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.” ― Charles Spurgeon “Visit many good books, but live in the Bible.” ― Charles Spurgeon “When your will is God's will, you will have your will.” ― Charles Spurgeon https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/2876959.Charles_Haddon_Spurgeon (Philippians 2:13, KJV) |
Daily keys unlock the doors to peace of mind and heart. We start with Hope, that we explore and Love, that we impart. At first the key of waking up to look full in His Face. We start the day with Him to sup, to feed upon His Grace. When moving through the day we find the key of worship best. We honor One, Who's always kind, Who's way is fully blest. The greatest key of daily rest is found within His Arms. We lay the pate, now free from test, protected from alarms. Daily keys unlock the doors to freely know the Son, "Protect in rest," we now implore, "for You're the Only One." by Jay O'Toole on June 30th, 2020 |
These four walls are closing in, though often we may leave to buy some groceries, hope to win with masks, that to us cleave. These four walls to keep secure are urged to keep the air clean, that residents may long endure 'til from disease we wean. These four walls are our retreat when earthly billows roil. Yet, His great, downy wings replete give rest to us from toil. These four walls are closing in, but so His righteous care to give me Hope and lately win for Home is over there. by Jay O'Toole on June 29th, 2020 |
The fine Monet from far away gives pleasure to the eye, but closer looks do oft betray the questions, that apply. "How do these dots of oily paint make such creations rare? Why do the closest watchings taint what looks good, over there?" "Why do the workings of the Lord, magnificent when done, seem so against the living Word through days of waning sun?" A fine Monet can teach us best the way the Lord yet breathes. We see close work within each test, but One Day sight He frees. by Jay O'Toole on June 27th, 2020 |
Following the carrot will win the race. I see the place a little trace in front of my face, but ne'er will I arrive. Following the carrot, I run quite hard still filled with lard, a tubby bard, not much for chard. I've not yet lost to thrive. Following the carrot, I do some more of what I did so much before, the same results a daily chore from morning 'til I start to snore. I'm treading donkey's hooves. Following the carrot, now what's the point? I'm out-of-joint. I need a point, that oils anoint. What leader thus approves? But changing the carrot's a different goal, a heart made whole in spirit, soul a needful role is reaching daily dreams. The change becomes a carrot cake. It's iced to make the tastebuds quake, that dream or wake our Hope is what it seems. by Jay O'Toole on June 26th, 2020 |
The gift of life is from a cell. Of two made one, we know this well. Creation gives us much to tell. The spirit of us each will dwell within the body through life's dell. by Jay O'Toole on June 25th, 2020 |
Sahara dust is coming near, affecting heat and rain. The days of sauna may not clear, until it's left, again. The path of this storm is quite broad, like hurricanes before. These sunsets may, yet, leave us awed with greater rain to pour. Sahara dust by subtle means affects our health in ways, afflicting lungs without screens and darker skies for days. Sahara dust won't blow us down, like hurricanes can do, but leave us dirty all around when the steering current's through. The virus made us buy a mask, and masks may mean more now. For breathing can be quite a task when mud's upon the brow. Sahara dust may be the cause of greater health duress, but let us bow our heads and pause to ask the Lord to bless. Sahara dust effects remain a question in each mind, but when it's blown, a new refrain of music ever kind. by Jay O'Toole on June 24th, 2020 |
Brotherly Love will stay with dear ones every day to give both Hope, increasing Joy, supporting hearts. Brotherly Love is longsuffering to those in emotional and spiritual duress, being life to those, who have moved past feeling. Brotherly Love becomes a covering of Day to those, who are living through the dark night of the soul. Brotherly Love is a new commandment given to us by the Lord of Glory. This removes any options about expressing it. Brotherly Love expresses love to others in the same way Jesus loves each of us. Since He states, "love one another" twice in this verse, we are to take Him seriously, since the repetition constitutes the emphasis of faithful witnesses. Proverbs 27:10 shows us the great benefits of brotherly love for it creates kinship some those, who are not blood relatives. In times of difficulty, it is so much better to rest in the friendship of a neighbor, who lives nearby than to have to travel a long distance to be with kin. COVID-19 has certainly drawn communities closer to each other, since the quarantine removed the possibility of travel at least for a time. Will we survive as a community, city, state, nation, and the world? We will not survive by living separate lives in the long run. Social-distancing to save lives from a minuscule virus is temporary at best. Brotherly Love causes us to look out for the best interest of those nearby, that together we may live well in increasing Strength, Hope, and Joy. Word count = 264 Line count = 25 The verse used is John 13:34. The "JUNE PROMPT" is a Free Verse poem on the subject of "BROTHERLY LOVE." by Jay O'Toole on June 23rd, 2020 |
What wondrous love Mom gave to me throughout my childhood years! She lift my eyes and caused me see, "There's hope beyond your fears." Mom gave her love throughout my youth, preparing me to leave. "The Bible's God's One Standard Truth. Neglect it and you'll grieve." Mom gave her love to cross the miles to reach me where I'd live. Committed she through tears and smiles great daily strength to give. Mom gave her love throughout the years, until she breathed her last, that when my face, it finally clears, her love is still so vast. by Jay O'Toole on June 22nd, 2020 |
To live the days of "wonder why" as though they're really good will lift the heart from daily cry on boards of cedarwood. The days of "wonder why" become a time of growth we need. Divide the lessons. Live the sum, and hope we'll always read. Each "wonder why" can stop our tracks, impeding future bliss. The burning sun can melt the wax, and cause us grace to kiss. These days of hope do come our way, a gift of God's reply. Our joy of life is lived each day beyond each "wonder why." by Jay O'Toole on June 20th, 2020 |
To fail seems very near, but sail. Good friends give a choice word. Heart mends. Bright lights. Friends give us strength these nights. by Jay O'Toole on June 19th, 2020 |
