L'aura del campo

'é a lua, é a lua, na quintana dos mortos'
♣ Federico García Lorca ♣

Higgins Street Bridge, April 25th 2009, Missoula, Montana

L'aura del campo. A breeze in the meadow. So it began the last day of Spring, 2005; on the 16th day of the month of Light of the year 162. This is a supplement to my daily journal written to a friend, my muse; notes I do not share. Here I will share what the breeze has whispered to me.

de Sade lives!

Smearing gothic s***
         on Life's prison-walls,
breaking shackles
         of rhythm and rhyme,
we embrace darkness.

24: 5/5/4/5/5 gothic

Note: imagery is based on the movie Quills (2000) which is fictionalized, to say it nicely, according to historians.

From the grave, a voice

Your sealed book, your empty chants.
What fate now wracks the silence of your past,
revealed by the unrest of those unloved
whose offspring are MY children
who once unheard have finally conquered
those reeking alleys of graffiti
in these ruins of your dirty cities
on what was once my land.
I waste no tears for what you've lost,
for what returns to me at last.

Summer's storm

Summer stands there frozen against the scudding clouds
the storm crashing through her as tall waves pound the shore
she resists temptation to go inside and thaw
this her power—to withstand it all—a beacon
of hope to the stranded weary of winter's pall;
she stands fast before the fury like a lighthouse
dug down to life's bedrock, sand sifting over toes,
a lone seagull circles her thoughts swirling to gusts.
There's nowhere like Gitchigami: spring, summer, winter, fall.

© Kåre Enga [177.177] (8.8.2020)

(9 alexandrine lines - 12 syllables)

prompts: lighthouse, hope, seagull, waves, sand, power, crashing, clouds

Note: Gitchigami "great sea" is the Ojibwe name for the lake the French called le lac supérieur known in English as Lake Superior. "Superior" would work instead of Gitchigami but I'm torn as to which to use.

your voice becoming mime
faint wind that never chimes
your face ... a paradigm

What is this

mother brought her a slice
of who knows what

pushed to the left
pushed to the right
swirled around the center
spilled on the table
slopped on the ground

aunts and uncles
cousins galore
stuffed their faces
as if they were starved

what is this?
goat on a stick?
some sick joke?

they laughed
when she asked
so she went back for more

pretended to eat it
pushed to the left
pushed to the right

slowly clearing the plate
fed to the dog
