"Writing for the Soul"

My heart was born to be cloaked from sight.
I always found it easier to hide
and keep my inner self unknown.
They tell me I possess a light
that brightly shines from deep inside,
even though it's not always shown.

Instead I express myself when I write.
My words give me a sense of pride.
I feel it straight to the bone.
My pen will pass any sword's might.
My confidence has become wide.
Through the years, my talent has grown
and through words I show how I feel.

To me, poetry feels so right.
Others read it, and in me they confide
and they no longer feel alone.
It gives me comfort in the night
that shining light from deep inside,
that I wish would always be shown.

I may not always try to fight
when my inner worlds collide
and it feels like my chances are blown.
Instead I use my emotions when I write
and take the situation in stride.
I connect with others, no I'm not alone
and I know that it's for real.
