I never liked Sherlock Holmes for that. There weren't any clues in the stories that I could use to figure out the solution myself; Holmes always used his arcane knowledge to pull some far fetched explanation out of the air. I like at least a fighting chance to work it out myself. I am more and more drawn to mystery writing, though. I love keeping a reader in suspense and would love to be able to do it better.
