I love Agatha Christie-- the arcane knowledge is more things like, "but the fishmonger doesn't smoke" and she always plays fair--you get the clues. The coziness is actually the reason I like mysteries...they're comforting, like a cup of tea.

I can't write them, though, because they have to be tightly plotted, and I'm not so good with that. But I think it's a fun genre.
