well, what I would do, is first pick a time in history that you'd be interested in, victorian, medieval, civil war, or maybe it's the history of another country? Anyway, do some research on the country, time frame in history, and see what was happening then. I was researching the artist Albrecht durer, and found out that he lived at the same time as several other famous artists. So for him, that was the perfect time in history to be an artist. Once you figure out what country, what time frame, and what event in history, or the general way of life then, then you can create your characters based on that information. maybe a knight fell for a poor girl, even though he's not supposed to, maybe a pirate kidnaps a girl, then they fall in love. I don't know, think of something original. My suggestions above have been done before. Try to imagine something that might happen in real life at the time. Look into biographies of people in different times in history. The rich girl wanted to be a nurse in a time before women's rights, and became florence nightengale. A girl wanted to do her part in a war, so she dressed as a boy (there was no age limit on recruits in those days-so she passed for a preteen boy-with no facial hair). pioneers & indians crossed paths. the rich & poor crossed paths. even the rich & poor on the titanic. rich women hired young girls sometimes from poor families as "chaparones" as women in that day, didn't travel alone. Maybe this "personal aide" girl meets a rich boy? another poor boy who snuck aboard? who knows. youngsters back then worked at a young age, maybe the daughter of a seamstress brings an order to a rich persons house and a young man opens the door, and is impressed with her humbleness, as all the rich girls are rather full of themselves. anythings possible. any two people anywhere. For example, The Journey of Natty Gann, is a nice historical romance, taking place in the American depression era. There was some movie out a while back, about a maid who tried on the fine clothes of a hotel guest, and got mistaken for a "woman of means" and a "man of means" took a liking to her, but like cinderella, she wasn't whom she seemed to be, would he accept her for who she really is, if he found out? That was a different twist onthe cindrella story. |
