You don’t got the guts to shoot me! I said. And he said, watch me, and I said, I am watching you you gutless piece of trash and I started to laugh, real loud and his hand started shaking. “Go ahead! Go ahead! Do it! pull the trigger, tough guy!” That’s what I said!

“You said that?”

“Oh, yeah!”

“You said that?”

“I said that. Just like that.”

“Well, that was awful brave of you!” The cop said all impressed.

“The gutless wonder didn’t have the guts,” I explained to the cop, the cop was young, a rook. He never heard of anybody standing up to a killer like that... “You can tell when a feller has the guts,” I explained.

“No guts,” said the copper, looking at me long and hard.

In the distance, I could hear sirens wailing.

“Did you see which way he went?” he asked me.

“He just ran like a scared rabbit,” I said.

“Well, we’ll find this guy for you!”

Yeah, you do that, I said. You get that ess oh bee! That guy! I didn’t think he’d do it! I said.
