A place to get together and chat about mental illness or about whatever is on your mind. |
I've worked with all sorts of disabled children, even teenagers with extreme cases of autism. I've experienced first hand the violent outbursts. It can be difficult to manage. My question would be, did your company train you to work with these types of clients? If not, how would they expect you to successfully teach speech therapy to them without the training of how to handle their behaviors? Devil's advocate here, you probably should never have been assigned to work with the said child in the first place, however, since you have been doing so, this proves that you are able to work through the PTSD and meet with the child. Therefore, your manager is probably dismissing the PTSD claims. Just a thought. However, I still revert to my first statement about the training. I know it is frustrating to be in the work place and have a mental illness. Management doesn't understand and they don't care. The bottom line is the bottom line. That is all they are concerned with. Sometimes you need the support of the union or a good attorney. Good luck. Deanna click here click here |
