Fountain of Knowledge

the people are allowed to go to school and once a year the king sends inspectors to every house to be sure that the conditions are safe. for instance if the master is a drunk his workers are taken from him.
the whole country is more of a melting pot of cultures and races. they keep there cultures but live with the other races in peace...some of the time.
the time is medieval fantasy. yes with unicorns and dire wolves with catlike features and of coarse a disease that turns you into a zombie.
the climate is mountain deserts.
the servants are never forced into anything. they are not bought or sold but hired. they are born with a desire to serve.
the main character was raised as one but is short with back hair and an uncanny ability to learn any fighting technique. the other workers frown on violence but don't interfere. there was a time when a worker married a noble but she had to give up her name for it. its not the masters who make these rules but the workers. hope that helps
