Re: What Makes Me a Foreigner to My Own Writing
Hi Paul.

I know where you are coming from... I write about a Fictional Black Ops Team. It comprises of ex SAS, MI5, MI6, and other departments. I have had dealings with MI6, SAS, and the SBS. I decided to research in depth about MI5 to cover my lack of knowledge on that subject. While I was doing this, I discovered lots of interesting information about MI6. I realised that to write about the Security Services, I would have to research all of the groups in-depth. I made notes about everything I could find. Now I am writing the sequel, and that vast amount of research into MI6 in particular is invaluable. I don't have to research it again as I already have the data.

I was advised not to spend all my time doing research, as it can become counter-productive. So I spent two nights on the net and collected all the info I could get. The main thing for me was that I found the research helped me to give a balanced story. The facts about the service and procedures (From research), and my own experience of their operating methods in the field.

I still write from experience, but check over my research every now and then to see if there is anything I can include.

Finally - Doing research can be fun! *Smile*

Regards,

*Star* Sisco. *Star*
