I'm not entirely sure what you mean with character epilogues. Do you mean what happens to your characters when your story ends? As for progressing events here's a list of things that help me!

1) Write out something completely random that you may not even want to happen. Be it a random alien from mars, or sudden earthquake--anything to get ideas flowing to progress your story. Sometimes those random ideas might even stay.

2) Kill a character. It doesn't have to actually happen in your story, but just try it. Why? Because that'll get you thinking about the other character's feelings about them. Someone might be happy, devastated, maybe they go crazy. Who knows what happens! Why not find out? Maybe it'll give you some ideas.

3) Have an Outline written out before you write. <--- this helps me more than anything and it seems so obvious! Because once you write out an outline, you know exactly what's going to happen, all you have to do is get there. An example of an outline might be:

I. Riley's back-story
         A. Childhood
                   1. Bad home
                             a. Alcoholic Parents
                             b. Abusive Sister
                             c. Draws
                   2. Gangster
                             a. Joined a gang at 12
                             b. Kicked out of home to live with Aunt
                   3. Killed small animals
                             a. Gang pressured him to kill small animals for fun
                             b. Stopped drawing for good
                   4. Bully
                             a. Peer pressure deludes him slowly to becoming a jerk to people
                             b. Enjoys hurting people because it makes him feel powerful
                             c. Started drinking at 16
         B. Present
                   1. Gang Leader- now 19
                             a. Goes on raids
                             b. Forces people in
                             c. Hates animals
                             d. Drinks heavily

You can make an entire story from that just by filling in the details! Experiment in ways that help you. Hope this helped some.
