So, normal, but not bog-standard stuff. Although it could be completely normal to the person. I think I get it.

My character, Alexandra, is a rogue human hitman(woman). That's her normal. Her life gets more interesting, or The Plot happens, when she's hired by The Authority, the slightly shady government of the Milky Way. I'm still fleshing it out, but normal is hitman, The Plot is when something not normal happens. Yeah, definitely makes more sense. Thank you!

And when I was reading your description, and then it got to the portal part, I did a double-take. *Laugh*
