“What sort of bird is that?”

“What bird?”

“That bird there, standing on the wagon wheel.”

“I don’t see a bird on the wheel.”

“There! Open your eyes. What is it?”

“My eyes are open, but I still don’t see a bird.”

“The bird there on the wheel.”

“You’re crazy. There is no bird.”

“Fine. I’ll prove it.”

Snow walked out the door and into the garden. Grumpy listened to her voice through the open window. The only time he ever felt joy was when she sang. The bird jumped from the wheel and landed on Snow’s finger. She walked back to the window, “This bird. What is it?”

“Oh, I see your point. Yes, that’s a purple finch.”
