Hi, A Cassandra. , and welcome to Writing.Com. Miss GeminiGem of House Lannister , is correct in that the length of time the term "newbie" is applied to new members varies.

I believe that six months is the length of time a person can actual post a new post in the "Noticing Newbies. Any member can reply to a post, but only new members (six months or less) can initiate a post. Some member-run Newbie contests may allow members up to a year to enter.

Just remember a couple things--a newbie to the site does NOT necessarily mean new to writing. Many new members arrive on site having written for years; some may be published. They are considered newbies only because of their unfamiliarity with the site and its many features. And being a newbie should NOT be considered a negative stigma. There is a (sometime significant) learning curve to finding one's way around WDC.

So enjoy your access to some places our more established members cannot go. And best of luck with all your writing endeavors. WDC will be what you make of it.

A revised Sig for white background.
