I don’t really get why you think this way honestly. I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable that Will’s mom believes Will did that, and I think it’s pretty understandable for her to be pissed at him given that she literally saw somebody who looked and sounded exactly like Will do exactly what she accused him of, and from her point of view, that’s pretty ironclad evidence that Will is trying to bullshit his way out of trouble by basically calling her a liar. And it does make sense for Will to take a taxi home, because part of the imposter’s excuse was that he forgot an important assignment and needed to get it. Will’s mom has no reason whatsoever to assume that there are imposters running around. Will is kinda known for doing spastic and stupid shit, I don’t think it’s genuinely out of the realm of possibility for him to have done that. Will’s parents would have had pretty good reason to be angry with Will for making his dad miss work over nothing, and Will’s mom didn’t explode on him until he started denying what she saw with her own eyes.
