Same here. The theme is often part of the core idea, or else emerges early in the planning.

The most difficult thing for me as a writer is keeping the theme from becoming too heavy-handed. Even though I feel strongly about my themes, I have to remember that I'm first and foremost here to tell an interesting story ā€“ not deliver a TED talk *Think*
