This is how I felt looking for a publisher
I went after a publisher with a high-risk strategy. I knew the odds were against me for any large publisher or agent. I had read that new writers have a better shot with smaller publishers if they come in with more than one book. Show them it's not just a one off.

I had three complete polished drafts of a trilogy and rough drafts of three more in the series. Years of effort before I began to query in the late fall. It was a cold winter night, in the middle of winter after more than fifty rejections when I got the first twinkle of a real interest.

It was late at night, the wind was howling, when I got that email asking for all three books, after they had read the first three chapters of book one. A tear ran down my cheek as I responded to that email, I was on the verge of giving up. The publisher ultimately turned me down after a detailed read, but encouraged me to keep querying. That spring I had a contract for the first three novels.

Persistence is a most important trait.
