A review of, " Elegy For the Neighborhood"
The visual imagery in the poem is as beautiful as it is stunning. The tone is one of sorrowful lamentation resulting from the decline of a city due to corruption. The images of absolute decay are effectively used to reinforce the atmosphere of blight. The city actually dies and this decline is contrasted with its former status as, "the heart of commerce." The sad tone supports the elegy quite well.
The reader is left with a sense of sadness. The writing is spectacular.
