Welcome to this issue of the Noticing Newbies newsletter. Join me as I take you into some nooks and crannies of Writing.Com that you may not have found time to check out yet. This newsletter is about and for you. And for you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

Last month my newsletter compared the various free and paid memberships available to WDC members. Now let’s compare some differences between the Free and lowest paid (Basic) membership.
The Basic membership costs only $19.95 (US) per year. The biggest advantage of this level is more storage for your writing.
The Free level allows for storage of up to 10 items, each of which can be as large as 50 KB (or roughly 8200 words). With a Basic membership, one can store five times as many items, each double the size allowed under the free membership. That’s more than 800,000 words. (A typical novel contains 70-120,000 words.)
Additionally, a Basic membership allows a member to create and host Folders, enabling you to better organize your stories and poems. It also reduces (though does not delete) the number of graphic and pop-up advertisements.
A paid membership of any level offers the opportunity to enter one of the monthly official Writing.Com contests. Just a third-place finish (of 250,000 gift points, or GPs) would more than reimburse the purchase of an annual Basic membership. Of course, you must purchase the membership first to be able to enter the contest. A second place would pay for a full year of Upgraded.
There are alternative means to obtain GPs to buy a membership. Each day you log into WDC earns you GPs. Check out "Automatic Gift Points from Writing.Com" for more information on this topic. Posting your first item will net you 100 GPs. But … reviewing. That’s the ticket to earn some big Points. Some years back during the first five months of 2010, I earned almost 330,000 GPs JUST from reviewing. And I firmly believe my writing improved from all that reviewing. Try it!

From Farragut : Thanks; I have free membership and have had it since about 2012. Although, it seems like even more limitations have been put on the free membership.
I would think that since the cost of adding more servers and storage to the WDC to handle the needs of thousands of members site can't be going down, The StoryMaster  has to run a fine-line as to what he can offer to both free and paid members. Of course, this is MY opinion only. And thanks for being here.
From hbk16: All kinds of memberships are interesting. I think it is a question of writing perspectives that someone chose a particular membership. In the beginning, it is interesting to get a free membership then an upgraded membership then a premium. The main thing is that someone evolves in her/his review or writing constantly and learns from her/his mistakes and from other members.

From Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight  : I'm Premium but always worry about space (currently over 800 items) and so stopped posting new things a long while back; I rather wish there was a static item "merge" function. I'll likely never have all of my stuff posted here. I write too much, I guess.
Can one really write TOO much?  Seriously, I can appreciate your dilemma. While I'm my not near my Premium limits yet, I would be if I had more time to write. Retirement! That's the ticket.

If the features that exist in your current membership level works for you, that's what counts.
From s : I don't maintain a large portfolio here, I only do a few reviews nowadays (the abuse isn't worth it), I dislike competitions... Yeah, I'm probably at the right level.
You've obviously thought your situation through. I am sorry to hear any form of abuse--the Review system, while not perfect, has always been supportive of my writing efforts. Best of luck with your endeavors here.
From preksha : Yes, I have the right writing.com membership level for my needs. Although my paid membership level has expired and as an amateur writer, this site is best to test our writing skills by giving our imagination wings.
