Wing It!

Many years ago, when I first joined WDC, I would read some of the contest prompts and maybe even start writing a story for that prompt. I would see activities and think they looked fun, but didn't enter. Hey! I'm shy! Even in the virtual world. Okay, maybe not terribly shy but I was nervous about showing my writing to other people. For the exact reason I joined this site, to become a better writer, held me back from sharing.

I put a few things in my portfolio and behold, the lovely members of this community read my work and reviewed what I put forth. I felt so encouraged. I felt even more encouraged when I was given Preferred status. How nice! I felt a sense of community and positivity from the beginning on. Quite a few years later, this is still my home. And the people here are awesome.

Why am I getting all nostalgic? I want to remind all of you how you felt at the beginning, and perhaps take a moment and pay it forward. Send a review, enter a contest, say hello in the Messenger. While they don't seem like much to you, to someone just joining, or even someone feeling lonely in these days of isolation, it means a lot. Start or join an activity and encourage others. Review a newbie. Or hey, respond so a newsletter question *Bigsmile*

One more word of encouragement - if you talk about your writing with your family, friends, or the people on your zoom meetings...invite them to join our community. If you haven't visited our Linking to Writing.com   page, give it a peek. You might help a budding writer find a home!

This month's question: Do you promote your portfolio outside WDC? How? Send in your answer below! *Down* Editors love feedback!

2. Practice writing from a definite point of view.
3. Practice “showing” the action rather than “telling” readers what is going on.
