Adaptability
I recently found out that I'm autistic and have ADHD. (Happy Autism Acceptance Month to my fellow autistics out there!) The interesting thing about being diagnosed "late" in life, is that I've already come up with a few strategies to deal with daily life. I still struggle, but I have some techniques that I've developed over the years that I can try.
I think it's very important to be flexible, to be open to change when necessary. Not saying it's easy, but it's a good idea to try to do it! When my schedule changes suddenly, it can cause anxiety, but it can also create a new challenge for me to tackle.
To manage my ADHD, I tend to keep lists and schedules, but sometimes they stop working and I have to come up with a new way to keep things in order.
Whether you're hosting a contest or participating in one, it's a good idea to figure out what keeps you on task. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's a good thing to figure out about yourself! For some, paper calendars and lists work best. For others, electronic reminders work! Still others like to work with a group so others can help them stay on task.
A few things that work for me:
If I'm in the middle of a task and something new comes up, I write it down for later. If I'm in the middle of a complicated task, like judging contest entries, but I also remember a contest I wanted to write an entry for, I put aside a block of time later to work on it. I write a reminder in my calendar or set a reminder on my phone (I love checking things off my list, so I have lots of lists!)
There are some tasks that just aren't exciting for me, and it's hard to make myself do them. But it's also important for me to not be late, so I have to find a way to motivate myself. I find something I really enjoy listening to (usually music or a podcast), and I'll play that while I do the task that isn't as fun. That way, it motivates me to do it.
It's also a good idea to remember kindness. Be kind to yourself if you miss a deadline or don't keep to your task list or schedule, and also be kind to others if they're running late. It's impossible to know everyone's struggles and abilities, so practicing kindness and understanding can go a long way!

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (March 9, 2022)" ), discussed Hosting. Here is some feedback from last week's Newsletter readers:
I thought long and hard before creating my challenge, "The Contest Challenge" and even longer and harder before creating my contest, "The Whatever Contest -- Closed for Now" .
I wanted something that would be fun and rewarding for both my participants and for me, but that wouldn't become a burden and something that is flexible. I created my challenge as something that I can really do a lot with in terms of rewarding participants, encouraging folks who have dropped out, etc. But that also, if I'm having a rough time, I can just go on auto-pilot and it mostly just handles itself, so long as I update the list of entrants.
My contest, on the other hand, has been more of a challenge for myself. I'm terrible at judging entries on time so I've taken to sometimes having others judge for me.  I joke that I call it The Whatever Contest because The Whatever/Whenever Contest wouldn't fit.  I run it whenever the mood strikes and each round is different--maybe a 2000 word fantasy story this round and several months later a 15 line max romance poem.
I also have used it to help get more things to nominate for low-entry categories in "Invalid Item" or to introduce people to new ideas such as creating a WdC Will and letter to your family asking them to send the site owner a copy of your death certificate so you can retain your current membership level after you are gone and you become a white case to forever memorialize you.
