A Poetry Wave



Don’t know about you, but I’ve been saddened by the trend of negativity I’ve seen (and I’m rarely on social media anymore—so we’re talking about the spurts of news I see and the human behavior I’ve observed).


Here’s an example: I was in a small local grocery store just waiting in line to check out, and a lady started complaining loudly about the direction the line was going—and mind you, it was the exact same direction as all the other lines in the checkout area. Finally, I guess she got to her point, which was that people wanted to get through the line to shop on the other side of the line. As nicely as I could, I stated that if she had simply asked to go through, we would have happily obliged, and then did just that. After that, she muttered incoherently on through and down towards the next aisle.


In the end, I chalked it up to her having a bad day, but it made me think about how negativity can spread. What if we can spread positivity instead? Like when you’re at a game and someone starts the wave and it spreads to others as it moves through the stadium.


Let’s start a poetry wave of positive vibes. Let’s send out kindness in our thoughts, actions, and poetry.

Synchronicity Poetry Form


This poetry form is a newer form, and Debra Gundy is its inventor.



MUST HAVES


--Line count: 24

--Number of stanzas: 8 (3 lines per stanza)


--Meter: Syllabic in the following format: 8, 8, 2
--Rhyme: No

--First-person POV

--End with a twist (present the twist in stanzas 7 and 8)



COULD HAVES or WHAT IS THE POET’S CHOICE IN ALL THIS?


--Alignment

--Word count, as long as the stanza count, line count, and syllabic format are followed

--Topic/theme
