This newsletter is about and for you. And for you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

A short Writing.Com history lesson. Most of you probably know that Writing.Com was created online on 30 August 2000. Specifically, Stories.Com was created on that date. WDC celebrates this creation with annual festivities every year with both official and member-led activities each September.
But you may NOT know that the original focus and sole intent of Stories.Com was Interactive Stories.
Over the first two years the site evolved not only by adding new members but also by introducing many new features and item types. Over this short period, the The StoryMaster  added more than 80 genres and 16 item types to the Stories.Com repertoire, thus changing the focus from stories to an expanded field of writing in general.
Stories.Com became Writing.Com effective with the stroke of the new year on 1 January 2003. That evolution and innovation continues today. Initially there were few restrictions on Interactive Stories using Free accounts. Then in mid-May 2003, the Basic membership was introduced along with some changes to the Free memberships, specifically limiting Free to five items. The reason was the availability of storage for the increasing number of items being created. While the current Free membership is now limited to ten items, the reason for the limitation continues to be storage and the cost thereof.
In April 2014 the policy changed that free accounts could not create new Interactive Story items. Existing Interactive Story items were grandfathered, and could be edited. Interactive Story items cannot be transferred to a free account.
Free memberships continue to be available to anyone wishing to join WDC; they comprise the vast bulk of active memberships. This means funding support for the site does not allow for complete and extensive access to all the features on WDC for Free memberships.
You can find out more information about Interactive Stories by reading "Interactive Story" . If you have a paid membership and wish to create an Interactive Story, open "Create/Edit an Interactive Story" for step by step instructions.

From monella : The question, How newbies learn to write? I joined a local writer's group in my then home town in U.K. with the intent not on writing but rather making friends. It was daunting in the beginning as the members of this group were all accomplished poets and seasoned writers. They took me under their wing nurturing my efforts. I moved back to Africa determined to write a fiction novel. My second fiction novel will be released in 3 weeks' time. I offer this in encouragement to all the newbies on WDC.

From Khola Mousethyme  : Okay so maybe my math was off. I was figuring nine hours a day (3 hrs 3x a day, estimated at maximum) by seven days. So it would only be about 63 hours. It does seem like a lot more. 
From Audrey : It depends on my mood mostly. I can't really put a number on it.
From Jay O'Toole  : Writing.com is my Go-To since I deactivated Facebook in 2016. Work limits what I can do, but easily 2-3 hours of cumulative time, and more on my days off.
My mistake. I was thinking daily rather than weekly when I responded in my O.P. That makes about 2-3 hours every day, consistently more during NaNoWriMo, and approximately 15-20 hours per week. This includes time on my laptop, and time on my phone, which makes Writing.Com truly as I described it to my daughter, Jade Amber Jewel , "Facebook for Writers."
From AmyJo- only 2 steps behind - : I spend at least 3 hours a day here at WdC.
From N.A Miller : 1-6 hours here. usually solid 8 though if editing.
From Elisa the Bunny Stik  : You mean I'm supposed to keep track?
From Maddie Sunshine Stone : Anywhere from 5-14 hours a week. I pop on during breakfast, lunch, supper and any other time I can get a few minutes.
From Reader8363 : Maybe 4, up to ten if I need to do something here.

From jtwrites : Given that this is my second day here, I don't have a 7 day period to reference 
But I will say that my aim isn't to spend a great amount of time here, rather to limit that time. In the past, I've had a tendency to over commit to things, and it ends up detracting from progress on long form projects.
I don't have a pre-planned amount of time to spend here, but I'll have to establish that at some point. There are simply too many rabbit holes for me to go chasing things, and I often find squirrels within my rabbit holes...how they got there? I haven't a clue but...wait, what were we talking about again? Right! I've got to stay focused, so I'll just be dabbling, likely throwing hats into a contest or 12 lol
