Recently, WDC experienced the loss of a member. No, this person didn’t just resign from the site; she passed away.

eyestar~* , or Mona, as she was known by many here, began her Writing.Com journey on Dec 26, 2009, and ended that journey with her passing on 25 Mar, 2023. Her Portfolio is currently displayed in "White Case Memorial. Upon receipt of her death certificate, the StoryMaster will change her Portfolio case to White.

The "White Case Memorial honors those members who have passed away by maintaining their Portfolio. No changes may be made or will be allowed to any White Case Portfolio. Currently there are 45 Portfolios listed in the Memorial. Most have been converted to white cases. The remaining cases are still pending.

What’s the hitch with the pending cases? Simply put, requesting that a deceased member's account be memorialized requires the family mail the site the member's username and a copy of the death certificate. The site's contact information is available in "Contact Writing.Com

Check out the following entry from "Writing.Com 101: "Request a Deceased Member Be Memorialized for more information on the White Case Memorial.

That said, let’s talk about a subject about which most of us don’t want to think. What happens when we pass on?
We probably want to be remembered … fondly, I suspect. If you’re here, you’re a writer. Chances are you want your writings to be read. Now’s the time to make plans for that to happen.

Speak to your family about your desire to have your writings and Portfolio memorialized, maintained by WDC as long as the site exists. Ensure they’ll have access to your Port so they can contact the Staff with any necessary documentation. If you host a Group that you wish to continue, ensure someone within that group has the appropriate access to continue its existence.

I seem to recall seeing an item onsite some time back in which the author was trying to highlight this very topic. But I’ve been unable to find it. If anyone knows about such an article, please let me know.

I wish all of you the best on your writing journeys.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the Newsfeed:

From Patrick : How to "critique",someones work. A good "heads up", on how to "help", and not annoy someone. Well written, a lot of work went into it.

         Thank you.

From oldgreywolf scribbles : Years ago, it was probably, "Okay, this is my Portfolio. Now what?" These days, any article is favorite if it answers my question(s). Haven't had to ask for help, yet.

I maintain a LOT of favorites for that very reason. So glad for Fave folders to help organize.

My comment: This is where I learned how to customize In & Outs.
