Hi, I'm JACE - House Targaryen .
Welcome to this issue of the Noticing Newbies newsletter. Join me as I take you into some nooks and crannies of Writing.Com that you may not have found time to check out yet.
Don't forget to toss me a note about what you liked or didn't like in my column, or about a topic you'd like to see discussed. This newsletter is about and for you. And for you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

On May 5, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated "that COVID-19 no longer qualifies as a global emergency, marking a symbolic end to the devastating coronavirus pandemic that triggered once-unthinkable lockdowns, upended economies and killed millions of people worldwide." 1. They further stated that COVID-19 still existed and people should not let their guard down lest complacency trigger a resurgence of the virus.
No, I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom. Bust most of use have placed much of our lives on hold for quite some time. And while airline and vehicle travel has increased over the past year, the declaration by the WHO seems to give tacit approval for folks to move on with their lives.
I'm retiring later this summer from a job I have thoroughly enjoyed for more than 30 years. I've always had hobbies and pastimes that I've longed to pursue. But they've been placed on the back-burner due to making a living and supporting a family. Now I will have time to enjoy three things of great passion for me--travel, photography and writing.
After retirement I plan to combine all three passions and share them here. Traveling by air, sea and rail will offer many opportunities for the written word. I hope you stop by and find something you like.
And when you're finished reading this newsletter, take a moment to remember that which sparks your passion. Write about it (assuming writing is not your only passion). Summer is normally when folks take personal time. Whether it's a vacation or staycation, write about it.
And while you're at it, send me a link. I'll share your passions with everyone. I look forward to reading your submissions.

From 227mastodons: Yes, undoubtedly. Life is fleeting, but death is eternal. I’d rather live a hard life and serve as a lesson, than an easy with no notable examples of my character.
Living hard could produce lots of things about which to write.
From tj ~ endeavors to persevere!  : I really don't know. I guess, I mean it's not going to make any difference to me after I'm passé. Actually, I'd rather they access it now while I can interact with them. I know I may be seem a bit demented, but I promise it's not contagious (as far as I know), so come on over.
From s  I'm not 100% sure. I mean, there's more than 100 pieces of mine published, and so long as copies of those books exist, then so will my work, whether or not the publishers remain.
The thing is, stuff on WdC was put here for feedback or written for an activity or such. Not sure if any of it is worth maintaining after I've gone.
But that will be up to my kids, who will have access to this account after I pass. Their call, not mine.
You're right--your family will have to initiate the procedure to becoming a White Case. But you can make your wishes know before your passing.
From Scifiwizard Retired : Perhaps but I would choose who would gain said access. The reason is simple; there are members who contributed much to some of the items on my portfolio. They would get asked if they want it first.
From elephantsealer : I do not see any reason why I should allow access to my Portfolio after I pass on. I am "out"; I am not alive to know what others think of my Portfolio; whatever others think of my Portfolio is past everything else because I am "gone", "passed away", "no longer able to know what others think of my Portfolio".
ONLY person(s) who have your valid Username and account Password can have access to items in your account with the ability to change said items. Memorialized accounts may only be viewed just like you could do to another member's account.
From Crystal Dragon : Yes. Nothing of mine is published anywhere anyhow. I post most of my writing stuff here and bits on social media, along with some artwork, photography, etc. Maybe something I've created/written will have some sort of "value and worth" after I'm dead. Not that I think that anything I do or write is all that special or amazing... but sometimes people are not appreciated until after they are gone.🌹🌺🌸
From ~Lifelessons~ : I certainly would. If anything I did in life, I hope I left a message behind that anyone could benefit from. If I leave behind anything I would want it to be my passion in life.
From QPdoll  : I wouldn't mind my portfolio being available. I hope someone could use some of my work for teaching experiences.
From Moonstone : Yes! When I was younger I made a folder of fantasized stories from my life, in hopes of when I pass on someone reading it and thinking my life was amazing. I even wrote a letter to future people who found it and read it! Now it is collecting dust but I hope one day someone finds it and reads it.
"White Case Memorial" is a great way to honor those who have passed but enjoyed this great gig we call writing.
