This is a themed work for sure, but a favourite of my recent works
The Simple Life

Been looking for the simple life,
Seen both edges of the knife,
Walked away from love and pain,
I won’t be going back again.
It hurt too much the time before,
So now’s the time to close the door,
But a foot stands in the way,
And I’m scared its one I want to stay.

Walked in out of nowhere,
Said you’d be my friend,
But you’ve become my lover,
So I guess I’ve seen the end,
My self taught independence,
My lonely rider bit,
Forgive me sweets for saying so,
But we've kind of messed with it.

So are you here to stay my dear,
Do I fill your dreams?
My heart’s seen too much action dear,
Or so it often seems.
I feel your soul within me,
Got you under my skin,
But is lover your true title,
Lover? sister? kin?

My dreams will never go as planned,
Or you’d be here with me,
Not lying with another man,
And happy we would be.
But times a funny fella,
We’ll see if your worth the strife,
But til then my lovely friend,
I’ll keep the simple life.
