Chapter 2

Jason and I had finally gotten around to getting ready for our day out. It was a beautiful day with just a few passing clouds over the bay. The daily traffic of many boats and other ships were out on the waters as usual, as well as the avid visitors along the lake shore beaches and recreational areas. Today would be a warm day, but nothing to heavy.

We left the town house by 9:30 that day and drove on out through downtown to take in the sights. We stopped at “The Dance” to see Mindie for a bit. She offered us two drinks on the house. We gladly accepted. After our brief visit, Jason and I set out for a day of exploration. Heading on our way up north, we were happy and nothing would stand in our way.

“I’m glad we’re doing this.” he said as we merged on to the Golden Gate. “I am too.” I said. “But this basically was your idea.” I said. He looked over and smiled. “I know.” he said. “It’s times like these when you know that I’m nothing short of amazing and smart.” I chuckled at this comment. If you knew him, you’d know the first second you met him that he was definitely not in tune, let’s say.

We continued on for another 30 minutes as traffic in the area was always congested. Most of the times, with Jason’s driving we could get up north out of town in 45 minutes. Today was definitely a one hour day as he put it. We finally made it out of San Francisco and headed on to Napa. Today was all about cheese and wine.

2 hours after sampling some of the best cheeses and wines Napa County offered, it was time for a break. We went in to a local café in town called Streganona’s. It was a small petit café owned by a nice 3 generation Italian family. Jason and I sat down for a nice cup of Italian Roast when his cell phone rang.

“Damn it. It’s work; I’ll be back in a sec, hon.” He got up before I could respond. Something must’ve come up. I silently prayed that this call wouldn’t squash everything for today, and, especially tonight.

Jason had been gone for 5 minutes when I was distracted by and older white-gray haired man with a beard. He had suddenly sat down in Jason’s vacant seat.

“I’m sorry I’ve disturbed you. I couldn’t help but notice you two.” he said. I thought he was going to have something not-so-nice to say. “Sir, please. Is it that obvious to you? Why don’t you just give some other gay couple a hard time?” He looked at me for a moment, obviously hit by my comment. He looked almost hurt.

“I’m sorry.” he said. “I don’t intend to offend you at all. I’m not going to give you a hard time. I just wanted to tell you that you guys are simply divine together. I just wanted to bestow upon you my blessings for a full and rich, filling life.” I was touched by his sentiment and smiled.

“Thank you.” I said. “That is very heart-warming.” Please join us for a cup of some of this amazing Italian Roast.” He smiled but shook his head.

I’m afraid not, my dear child. I have many other endeavors for this fine day. But, if you every want to join me for a cup, just look at the sky and silently ask me of it. I’ll hear you and oblige.” he said smiling and looking serious just the same. It was strange how he said it. In the end I just nodded my head. I’d probably never see this fellow again.

He stood up to leave. I shook his hand. “Alright, my son. Take care and be safe. And remember, I’ll always be around if you need a helping hand.” he said. I thanked him and within a blink of an eye he had left the café. Jason returned just as quickly.

“Who were you talking to?” he asked. I shook my head. I was all so confused by these happenings. “Just a really nice gentlemen wishing us a very happy and rich life together.” I said. Jason looked my over. He was puzzled.

“Really?” I didn’t see him at all.” he said. I shrugged. “Well, he upped and left almost into thin air, it seemed.” I said still somewhat confused. Jason looked me over once more. I suddenly remembered his phone call. “What did work want?” I asked.

“Oh just to tell me that they were handling the old women’s estate land and stuff.” he said. “Oh.” was all I managed.

“Well this day was nice. Now lets get home right this minute.” he said. I was confused at the sudden rush to get home. “Why so quick?” I asked. He looked me over with a smug grin. “Well, it’s really hard to explain.” he said. “Ooh, you don’t have to. I think I’ve got ya.” I said taking his hint.

We made it home in 45 minutes. We barely made it through the door before things got real… “holy” in the house.
