Lost Love Found

Claire stopped dead when she walked out of work. There in front of her stood a man she last saw when he was eighteen. A boy that she once loved with all her heart. He was actually in front of her, right there where she could see him, after 4 years of nothing. Oh God, what am I going to say? Thoughts ran through her mind while hurt flooded her heart. She wasn’t sure what to do.

“Claire, I can’t believe it. I was just going to see Mrs. Hopkins and talk her into helping me find you.” His voice was so happy she felt even more hurt. His smile was the same one she’d fallen for, and it touched the part of her heart she thought she’d buried.

“I can’t believe it either Sam.” Over the years Claire convinced herself they weren’t that close. She’d tried forgetting, tried stopping the hurt, and tried fixing her heart from the hole he’d left. “What brings you back to our little town?”

Nervous now, and hurt himself that she didn’t seem to remember, he softened his tone. “I’m back… well… well I thought I’d catch up with some people…” He wasn’t handling this well and he knew he should tell her.

“Well that’s great, have fun catching up with people.” Claire, not able to keep the bitterness from her voice, stalked past him heading for her car.

He caught up to her and turned her around to face him. “I came back for you, Claire.”

Claire’s eyes filled with tears and as they fell, she looked up at him, “tell me why Sam.”

“Because,” Sam leaned down to kiss her stopping long enough to whisper, “I never stopped loving you.”
