What happens to birthday wishes not granted?
In a quick blink of staring eyes,
A gush of hot wind snuffed the flame.
Think a wild wish, no sad disguise,
Make your prize a far larger claim...

Way back when, I was just a tot.
What we wished for is often naught.
Confused but wait; I'm the hotshot!
Birthday wishes, are after thoughts.

Sally's pink dress-black polka-dots.
Told now that I know diddlysquat.
It's all part of some twisted plot!
In this horse race, I'm the long shot.

Those dark, sad feelings that I fought.
Felt as flat black cola inkblots.
Wonder why I'm always distraught.
Wishful dreams become after thoughts.

Suddenly things so often sought,
Become opened as presents got.
No quarter gained, no prize is wrought,
Are all dreams now just after thoughts?

Wishing glad dreams could become true.
Riches, glory, no needs and wants.
All now yours, because it's for you.
Want an embrace- no tease and taunts.

Ease up; don't get tied in a knot.
If you won't, was it worth a shot.
Love thy neighbor, but don't get caught.
Take my advice, or say so what!

Bad fears that your broken mind brought.
Useless stuff that people all taught.
Prizes at hand, certainly bought.
Wishes become mere after thoughts.
