little poem for a big tree
Towering peaceful giant
tall and strong and wide.
Ancient sentinel spirit
guarding the mountainside.

You've stood two thousand years now,
reaching for the sky.
Time for you moves slowly,
as our lives go flying by.

Quietly you watch us,
as we rush around in fear.
There's a message in your silence
we make too much noise to hear.

We think we own the sea, the sky,
and the mountain you stand on.
But you will still be growing here
when all of us are gone.
