Have you seen the monster?
Blank

Have you seen the monster?

The children screech in terror, and point,
Their swollen little stumps.
Mothers hurry them away, for fear
That they should see too much.

Who was that monster?

Wipe away this tardied glass.
Start again, create a blank.
Paint a masterpiece.
No mistakes this time, no
Monstrosities.
You only get one chance.
Twist it, bend it, break it, mend it –
Only perfection will please them.
Stare into the shards, and see
A girl you do not do not know.

Is this the monster?

Hang your head, shield your eyes,
Pull your collar tight.
Hide beneath that smile, and pray,
That you’ll be invisible.
No one will miss her…
Let her rot.
Another shadow in the background, cast
By a blank.

There’s no such thing as monsters.

This is an accident.
Who would see one flower wilt?
Who would mourn?
A distorted beauty, created by a
Hideous mistake.
Say no goodbyes.
Lock yourself away, with only your
Complimentary flowers.
No one there, to catch
Their final bloom.

Have you seen the monster?

Legends told and headlines made,
Of one reflection, one shattered mind.
A faded beauty, discovered by a
Perfect mistake.
Forgotten once before,
Yet accidents are made to be learnt from.
So dig beneath these layers of dust,
Brush aside those broken shards,
Scratch beneath this cracking paint
And find a masterpiece.
