Lost Dreams

Dark, dismal, dreary, filled with care;
dusk pulls its blanket everwhere.
Over the hills and dales and streams
and ever onward through my dreams.

Dragging me in its spiralled flight,
forever forward through the night,
until the morning light appears
to drive away my childish fears.

Reminded of a time gone by
when in my lover's arms I'd lie
enfolded in a sweet embrace,
remembering his darling face.

The strength that kept me safe and warm,
so loved and wanted, free from harm.
All over now, the time is past;
the love we shared could never last.

It ended like a sunny day,
as storm clouds filled the skies with grey
and lightning threatened all around,
and all my dreams to dust were ground.

It's over now, all hope is gone.
Still the memories linger on.
As all the tears I shed shine bright,
my dreams will haunt me through the night.
