A very dark poem about an instant depression after losing love.
You leave me to lie in this pool of roses
The smell sickens my senses
Roses are dead, my heart joins them
Darkness plays with my heart like a puppet
With strings of hate and pain

I pick up a rose
The black cover hides what was once something beautiful
My shadow lurks over who I am
The past won't let me go
So my future can never be bright

Lighting a match, I stare at the rose with a devil's eye
I set the fire and stare at the flame, smiling numbly
The smoke fills my lungs and burns with painful pleasure
I exhale agony
The world absorbs it into an atmosphere of loss and fear

And I lie there in the roses
As I think about what was once us
I'm leaving you behind
So with every word you speak
You give me one more reason to crush a rose
