SHATTERED HEART

A mother's love has been torn apart
leaving her with a shattered heart,
tears and pleading bring no relief;
a broken soul crashes on rocky reef.

The years of yesterdays are gone
with no sound of a morning song.
Struggling to find some inner peace,
praying that all the pain will cease.

Summer sunsets, the faint afterglow -
only the memories left of long ago.
I keep drifting in and out of sanity,
how can my only child turn on me?

I feel his anger, I feel his deep need
to win the fight with his inner greed;
just short of blows, as tears are shed
a shattered heart is left in quiet dread.

How to keep living, how can I show
the little boy grown that he's hurt so?
The world is spinning wildly in despair
I have a shattered heart that doesn't care.
