Written for Sherri Gibson's Coloring The World Contest using her prompt -

A WORLD TORN APART

Here we are in a world torn apart by hatred and sin.
Where do we go, what do we do - how do we begin?
There is only one answer, elusive though it may seem
but it came to me tonight in the strange way of a dream.

I dreamed I was walking a road with no end in sight,
just strolling along slowly on my way to a bright light.
Hesitantly going forward with no urge to look back
for everything left behind me was turning pitch black.

I passed hatred with caution, I begged to forgive
the ones who had hurt me when I chose to live.
I passed sin without thinking, but now I recall
that sometimes along the way I'd had quite a fall.

My world, as I had known it, no longer existed in time.
It lay torn apart, back there, and was no longer mine.
I felt not sorrow, I did not miss it, for somehow at last
I could look straight ahead with no thought of the past.

The light ahead was brighter and I saw the gate
of Heaven opening up for me, I was not too late.
I ran to the entrance but Jesus blocked my way,
He said "Child, you go back, this is not your day".

"The world that you left cannot be saved unless
YOU do your part to help save it and I confess
that I've shown you THE WAY, it's all up to you
to right some of the wrongs, do what you can do!"

I awoke with a start and I was back in my bed
remembering all of the things He had quietly said.
If it is up to me, then I must do what I know is right
and bring to this old world a little bit of HIS light.

Open your eyes and open wide your faint heart,
with His help you can help save a world torn apart.
With courage and strength and faith in God above
you can turn hatred and sin into undying love.
