A Poem about cancer
It comes in the night when no one's aware.
It grows and destroys whatever was there.
The body's defenses know not what to do
There's no rhyme or reason, who knows what is true?
It takes away dignity, comfort and strength
Shortening life to an unnatural length
What can we do with this pernicious beast
Just keep moving forward and never retreat
The odds are against us winners are few
But we'll keep fighting til our time here is through.
We may lose our lives but each battle we win.
Empowers our comrades, our friends and our kin.
We must not give up no matter the cost
For once we give up the whole war is lost
Fight with chemicals, surgery and radiation
Therapies, exams and so much medication
It starts to feel hopeless we want to retreat
We must not give in and let our spirits be beat
It can take so much from us we're in awe at how much
Self pity  a pointless and destructive crutch
It's hard and it's painful, it's evil that's clear.
But the strength we can gain will cripple the fear.
